Course FAQ:

What will I learn in this course?

This course will teach you the basics of barbell equipment and introduce you to the four primary barbell lifts: the squat, the bench press, the deadlift, and the overhead press. Here’s what you can expect from each week:

  • Week 1: equipment introduction; learn the squat, bench & deadlift; get acquainted with our programming software so you can complete workouts between sessions to practice what you learn.

  • Week 2: “regular” squat & deadlift workout; learn the overhead press; talk about basic exercise nutrition for lifting (as time allows).

  • Week 3: “regular” workout for all lifts (squat, bench, deadlift, press); learn a few useful accessory lifts (as time allows).

  • Week 4: “regular” workout for all lifts (squat, bench, deadlift, press); cover basic beginner training progression so you can keep lifting!

Do I need to have access to a gym with barbells to practice in between sessions?

In short: no you don’t need to have access to barbells between sessions. Of course you will get the most out of learning in this short period if you do have access to barbell equipment to complete workouts in between classes, but we’re believers in not letting perfect be the enemy of good! We can provide bodyweight, dumbbell, or machine-based modifications for training sessions.

Can I train at the AWBC facility in between sessions?

Unfortunately we don’t have open gym memberships at this time, but we are working on it for the future.
